The first National scientific – practical conference “Public health for safe Lithuania” was organised by the Faculty of Public Health of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences on 2016 October 6th in Kaunas. The main issue of the conference relates to the campaign” For safe Lithuania“ under auspices of the Lithuanian Republic President. The conference presentations were made by the campaign “For safe Lithuania“ ambassadors Tapinas Andrius and Jurgita Jurkutė, WHO representative in Lithuania Ingrida Zurlytė, LUHS Public Health Faculty Dean Professor Ramune Kalėdienė, 400 participants from all over Lithuania shared their knowledge, ideas and best practices on how public health and health care professionals can make a significant contribution to the creation of a safer Lithuania. Conference organizers and participants were welcomed by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite. According to the President, this event – another important step forward in raising up the social problems to the state level, their decisions involving authorities, municipalities, non-governmental organizations working in the field of health experts. National Board of Health member Danguolė Avižiuvienė presented the municipal public health offices role in the process of health promotion.
At the conference special attention was devoted to children and adolescents’ health: LUHS researcher A. Zaborskis discussed social disparities in children’s quality of life, possibilities of their measurement and comparison between countries. VU MF Institute of Public Health lecturer nutritionist R. Bartkevičiūtė overviewed patterns of fruit and vegetable consumption among primary school pupils and its trends over the past five years. Participation of teachers in students’ health promoting process at Lithuanian small city schools and interaction of motivation of adolescents and their educators in physical education activities were presented. Sharing the best public health practices municipal public health offices specialists presented improvement of the implementation of the children’s and adolescent’s health promotion measures in Druskininkai municipality and youth-friendly health care model in Klaipeda’s Municipality, health promoting school development in Lithuania and Norwegian financial support for children and adolescents health improvement and health disparities reduction. Poster presentation ” The self-rated health, approach to the healthy lifestyle and needs in preventive programs among 14- 17 years old adolescences in Lithuania“, was made. Results and conclusions of questionnaire based study of 14-17 year-old students in Lithuania was presented by the scientists R. Eičinaitė-Lingienė and G. Rožėnaitė from Institute of Hygiene, R. Raškevičienė from Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and L. Sakalauskas from Vilnius University Institute of Mathematics.
Results of collaboration between health and education sectors were presented by the Advisor of Ministry of Health Public Health Care Department of Health Risk Management Division Rita Sketerskienė. Public health and personal health care professionals cooperation aspects, psychosocial environment and workers’ health in primary health care sector and other issues of collaboration between public health and personal health care professionals were overviewed. Particular emphasis on the emotional well-being, mental health, suicide prevention issues at the conference was made.
